There is nothing quite like looking through my camera lens and seeing four entire generations of a family standing together in a single frame. It’s a powerful visual of a family’s history, growth, and legacy, and getting to document that kind of milestone is always an absolute honor.

This wonderful family packed up the car and drove in for an epic Colorado mountain vacation. Since they were all going to be in the same place at the same time—a rare and beautiful feat when you have four generations to coordinate!—they knew they wanted to capture the moment with a professional extended family session.

We chose Moraine Park in Rocky Mountain National Park, and it truly could not have been a more perfect setting. Moraine Park is famous for its massive, sweeping meadows, winding rivers, and towering mountain peaks framing the valley. It gives you those iconic, grand Colorado views while still being accessible enough for both the oldest and youngest members of the family to navigate comfortably.

Photographing an extended family of this size can sometimes feel like a bit of a puzzle, but this crew made my job so incredibly easy. The ultimate portrait win of the day was getting that perfect, clear shot of all four generations standing together with the rugged Rockies behind them. But beyond the big group shots, my absolute favorite moments to capture were the candid interactions in between. Seeing the quiet pride on the great-grandparents’ faces as they looked out at the beautiful family they built, and watching the adult siblings laugh together in the mountain air, was just magical.

We ended the afternoon with a gallery full of everything from classic, large group portraits to casual, candid moments of everyone just soaking in the vacation vibes. These aren’t just photos for a holiday card; these are timeless family heirlooms that will be passed down for decades to come.
