This past June, I had the absolute joy of photographing a playful and love-filled family session at Bear Lake in Rocky Mountain National Park. On a perfectly sunny afternoon, we explored one of Colorado’s most iconic alpine lakes with two energetic kiddos and their wonderful parents—an experience full of laughter, movement, and those in-between moments that make a session so meaningful.

From the moment we met at the trailhead, it was clear this would be a fun one. The kids were full of energy and curiosity, ready to run, play, and take in the beauty around them. We made our way around the lake, stopping along the path to capture both candid and lightly posed portraits, all surrounded by the stunning backdrop of pine trees, clear water, and mountain peaks.

There’s something magical about photographing families outdoors—especially little ones who can explore and be themselves. We played games, told jokes, and let the kids take the lead. Their joy was contagious, and it shows in every frame.

Bear Lake gave us the best light that day—sun dappling through the trees, bouncing off the water, and creating the perfect soft glow. The combination of natural beauty and the authenticity of this family’s connection made for a gallery full of warmth and emotion.
