My First Styled Shoot

Leila and Matt toasting at a head table. Styled shoot set in Greenwich, Connecticut.

This year to help develop images specific to my brand and gain a deeper understanding for the wedding industry I put together my first styled shoot.

Putting together this event was quite the learning experience and I definitely feel for all my couples planning their wedding!  I reached out to talented wedding creatives that I met while photographing Stephanie & John’s wedding during the summer.  Christine Turek was the hair artist, she has cut my hair (very, very talented – best hair cut I’ve had! I just wish her salon was closer to me, but was worth the hour and twenty minute drive!) and The Flower Box, creatives behind Stephanie’s beautiful summer bouquet and my beautiful fall/burgundy bouquet.

The biggest thing I learned was that it takes time to plan an event like this and I will allot more time for the next one.  When I set my mind to something I complete it though and have to thank Tom profusely for keeping me sane and focused!  This whole event cost me about $250 for the bouquet, hair, props, and printing.  I designed the stationary myself and picked a lot of the props up from Michaels (which I returned after the event because they were very gently used).

We chose Binney Park in Greenwich because of the scenery and a great pavilion with a fireplace that overlooked the lake.  The head table, chairs, and place settings were loaned to us from a wonderful company located near Hartford, Connecticut Rental Center.  I ordered the oversized round balloons and LED candles from Amazon. The dress and cake topper were supplied by the wonderful, beautiful Leila, my bride model.  Another previous bride and makeup hobbiest, Erica, did Leila’s makeup.  And since I was putting this all together I sprung to have a videographer, Shaina, come to document my interaction with Leila and Matt and the beautiful setup, as well as some personal touches.  She created a beautiful piece that I love!

Here are some of my favorites from the session:
